Music: Donald Fagen - The Nightfly
Donald Fagen's "The Nightfly" really caught my ear lately. There's a period in music between the very late 1970's and the early 1980's where music had this electro-jazz-softrock influence running through it. Cold War anxiety was still very much a thing at this point in history, and look at the time we live in now: The Russia-Ukraine war threatens to boil over into total war or become a simmering forever-conflict. Everyone's tense. The Nightfly deals with that same tension through a celebration of atomic-age optimism in spite of its collapse thanks to cynicism and fear; look at our own age.
